Blue House wins UNESCO Heritage Conservation Award

The Blue House Cluster has recently been awarded the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation and Gold for Best Urban Regeneration Project and the MIPIM Special Jury Award 2017 Asia Awards. It is the first time a built heritage conservation project in Hong Kong has ever received a UNESCO award. The project marks the first historical building scheme to adopt the 'Retain House and Tenant' model, whereby the existing tenants are retained during the process of preservation of the building and the local community is mobilised to participate in the revitalisation process. The Blue House is indisputably a success story but the key challenge is to replicate this model across other projects which significantly benefit the community. We hope the success of this model will encourage the community, government and private sector to work together towards a truly sustainable community.
