To kick off the ULI Asia Pacific Summit which took place on June 5-7, 2018, The Oval Partnership hosted attendees on a guided tour of the Star Street District to explore how this low-rise, old Wanchai neighbourhood was transformed into of a trendy, buzzing, life-style hub. Despite the temperamental weather, 30 guests turned up and were guided by our director, James Pierce, who spearheaded the revitalization project which was completed at the end of 2012. While strolling through the neighbourhood, James explained the strategy of the project, history of the site, the preservation of heritage elements, improvements to the public spaces and two parks, and how community input was encouraged, collected and used in the design.
The Star Street revitalisation project was a Public Private Partnership’ (PPP) with the Hong Kong Government, Swire Properties and The Oval Partnership, and illustrates the shared values that exist between residential, commercial, heritage and environmental interests and the potential for organic growth of the existing urban fabric of Hong Kong. It won the Grand Award for Built Project in the HKIUD Urban Design Awards 2014.
